Teaching procedure:
Step1 Review
1. Greeting.
2. “Are you nervous? Let’s listen to the music, there is a popular English song.”
3. Ask and answer to lead into the new lesson.” Do you like this song?” “ Have you heard of it?” “ But it had been a Chinese song by Zhang Xueyou. Do you know? Michael learns to rock translated it into English. Now the music is known by most people around the world because English is widely spoken around the world.” ( Write the topic of this section. ”English around the World.)
Step 2. Presentation
1. Divide the class into two groups, play a match. Ask them discuss in groups, talk about where you can see or hear English. Teacher can make some example by some objects first.
2. From the result you have just written, we can see English is throughout our daily life, please think about the pre-reading questions and answer them.
Step3 Consolidation
1. Show the questions and listen to the tape.
(1) How many languages are spoken in the world?
(2) Which country has the largest number of English speakers?
(3) Which language will be an important one to study in the years to come?
2. Read the passage again and think about a question. Why is English important?
3. Teacher writes down some reason on the blackboard. Ask student to find out the topic sentence of the article. Sum up the importance of the English, encourage students to study English well.
Step 4 Practice
1. Read after the tape.
2. Read the passage again. After reading, answer the questions on the blackboard without books.

③ Do we speak English as a second language?
④ In which countries English is spoken as a second language?
⑤ How many users of the Internet communicate in English?
3. Show some key words, ask students retell the passage with the words without the books.
Step 5 Project
1. Listen to the tape and finish Part 2.
2. Congratulate the winner, and encourage the lost group.
3. Homework, decorate the classroom in English. If you have some difficult , you can ask the teacher for help.
